D & C Joins Golisano/Cuomo Effort for Consolidation

The Rochester Democrat & Chronicle joined me in supporting Andrew Cuomo’s plan to empower municipalities to consolidate.
From the editorial:
“The more than 600 layers of government in Monroe County are among the most in any single county in New York state. No wonder the county also has some of the highest local taxes in the nation.”
“This burdensome situation is a big reason a proposal by Attorney General Andrew Cuomo must become a priority in the state Legislature this year. The Rochester region’s delegation to Albany needs to push hard to make that a reality.”
The Democrat & Chronicle also said: ”research shows consolidations may only reduce costs by 2 percent to 5 percent, New Yorkers statewide still could save up to $3.38 billion a year.” That’s worth trying.
The editors conclude: “The Cuomo plan represents the best opportunity to finally begin to redesign government in New York.”
We couldn’t agree more.

Watch out for property assessment INCREASES , although property values across the country have decreased, the Town of Clarkson has chosen to raise assessments on most homes by 5 to 15%.Higher assessment means higher taxes means less to spend on local businesses.
A simple way to try consolidation would be to consolidate all of NYS basic Reading,Writting and Arithmatic text books from 1st through 8th grade with one set of books throughout the State and test to those books for graduation into High School…Sounds kind of like the Chinese merit system now that I think about it.
hi i just want to say lets make a 51st state. i am for western new york state! lets make it happen!
We need a revolution …. Let’s start by passing a law reform which only allows one term for any of the State Reps , or Senators , or anyone involved in passing laws , etc …One and Done .. Tim….I love how they refer to themselves as public servants ….I call them public leaches
Tim, You are right on. These PUBLIC LEACHES are destroying NY and MUST be stopped. Stopping wastefull spending and cutting back is never an option for these idiots. I live in the town of Rush. I pay close to $40 per day, 365 days a year WITHOUT natural gas service, water, or sewer. So what am i really getting? And i just got a new assesment increase of $20,000 when there are homes forclosing up and down my street plus housing values have plumited to a all time low. All the while the town spent money on nice new “welcome signs” and a nice NEW building. I want to sell but the problem is TAXES are so high no one would want to buy. So what are my options? Up-root my home, put it on a trailer and move to another state. And when i leave i am taking my business with me. Homeowners are getting so FED-UP I see a time in the not to distant future where homeowners may group together in LARGE numbers (there is power in numbers) and just stop paying thier taxes and then the entire system will emplode. Put me on the list to get these public leaches out of office.
To Mark and Tim about the public leeches. How’s this for a phrase:
Know when to say when
No incumbents in twenty-ten
Folks - What ideas do you have for getting the idea across to the government entites that it is time for serious reform (pitchforks and torches aside)?
We must do something to control the politicians. Every day it seems that they do something to consolidate their hold on election outcomes (most recently the democrates and thier give backs to certain groups to control votes in the future). As I have written before:
There should be little doubt that we live in a country where perception is reality, where expressive style trumps meaning, where delivery means more than fact and where looks mean more than substance. Otherwise
- Entertainers would not be paid what they are paid
- So much money would not be spent on advertising
- The quote A sucker is born every minute would have no meaning
- There would be no need for lawyers or salesman or at least half of congress
When you give people money or jobs to do nothing; provide for them like a mom and dad - you buy their votes in the future. We have lost all need for personal responsibility and the puritain ethic - we have sold out to the politicians and union bosses and special interests and they have jury-rigged the process
we need golisano for gov!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Stacie , I think that ship has sailed. Tom has blown plenty of his own cash to try to make that happen. I can’t imagine anyone wanting to be David Patterson’s shoes right now anyways, Can you?
Stacie,
I just saw your original post…Tom Golisano as the first governor of WNY State would be a terrific idea. Lets make that happen
I think “WE THE PEOPLE” need to revolt! Fire them all…get rid of the President, Congress, The Senate and start over. Government is too big, they can’t even keep tract of every government department that exists. We don’t need the Government to tell us how to live or raise our children or whats good for us or bad for us…This used to be a DEMOCRACY…it is headed very quickly into SOCIALISM. There is no such thing anymore as responsibilty for your actions, no morals, no ethics, no AMERICAN DREAM. It’s all lost, and I’m afraid gone forever. And who do you think is responsible for the mess we are in today??? Not the PEOPLE, we don’t make the laws, we don’t spend the money, our elected officials do. What good does it do to vote when all the bad guys get in office because they BUY VOTES!!
I want a chance to vote on every single bill, I want referendums on everything…thats the way it should be. If I’m paying an employee, I should be able to make the dicission on wether or not he/she is capable of doing the job I hired them for!
Let’s fire them all!!
GOD BLESS AMERICA & HER PEOPLE!!
When did contracts become the be all and end all of government? What happened to Republican Form of Government? By the peoples’ vote we are supposed to be able to change government every two years. As long as we allow contracts to extend past the terms of the administrations that created them we have given away our voting right of We the People!
I think the torches and pitchforks are about the only thing the Albany Boneheads would understand. I feel an “Impeach NY” campaign is needed to take the boneheads out of Albany. I don’t think we can wait for 2010. Remember, there are more of us than the total union membership in NYS…why do we let them dictate spending in the Vampire State?
As far as a 51st state of WNY, I think it’s long overdue and as part of it, take back Niagara Falls from the NYPA and start a Niagara Frontier Power Authority. Charge downstate the rates we are getting charged.
the more we work the more we pay, in reality it really doesn’t pay to work, you work to pay…..that is reality folks, maybe we should join the other side..after all
they live better (the folks on welfare) or so it appears, free food, free housing, free medical, free electric and heating, full benefit of city and county maintenance services, the benefit of police protection, free social care and services, free city transportation, get the freedom to do whatever these recipients are inclined to do all day and night, have as many children they want, have as many animals they want, are aggressive to anyone who has the audacity to hold them accountable for their actions..and so tomorrow I will get up and go to work for them….how about some new legislation regarding the social welfare system..why aren’t they required to perform some sort of community service in a capacity they are able to do, for example paint, mow or other lawn maintenance, pick up litter, file library books, something,,,,,anything to give back to the community that supports them OR CUT THEM OFF….layers and layers of feeling as if they deserve all the benefits they receive and they are still being screwed. what is up with that?????
