Guiding True Political Reform in the State of New York
10 Jun
Today, a bipartisan group of Senators set aside party politics to elect new leadership and pass a sweeping series of rules reforms.
RNY Founder Tom Golisano said: “This is a great day for Responsible New York. The Brennan Center came out with a report several years ago that said that this was a dysfunctional government - in fact the most dysfunctional one in the country.
I think today a bold step was made to take away the nucleus of that report and move us towards effective Democracy…Some of the reforms that were passed today are historic nobody ever thought they would happen in New York State. These two guys came together they made the agreement and said, ‘We can get this done.’
It’s time to care more about the state than we do about ourselves.

You, good sir, are a special interest. I am sorry that the rich do not want to help the rest of us out of a jam. Selfish, greedy inconciderate attitudes, has been the trouble with every political agenda. “Ability to pay”, ring a bell? Percentage is the only fair way and that means the rich pay more! Unlike Florida, we are plagued by old infastructure, old boy networks, old ideas and old money, non of which helps progressive thinking. Have a great day!
I respectfully disagree. In my opinion Mr Golisano and many others have paid their share for many years. I don’t believe that you could call Mr Golisano ungenerous, selfish or greedy with his resources and talent. I’m a middle class, working person and I am frustrated and angry with the waste, inefficiency, and lack of initiative in New York government. The answer to our state’s problems isn’t necessarily “more money”…maybe we should be looking at smarter ways to use the resources we have, and at new ways of meeting our social and economic challenges
Thank you Mr. Galisano for stepping in and making people take notice with your change of address. I can’t say I blame you and anyone else for leaving NY. It is time for changes badly needed and I for one appreciate your help.
Hey Steve - how many private sector jobs has the rich Mr. Golisano created? A lot!! That is helping people - a lot!! Before you whine about “the rich” ask yourself if you’ve ever gotten a job from a poor person. And by the way, have you ever paid more to buy the same product as someone else because you have more money than they do?? Not likely, pal. So how “progressive” is that?? Rich people are not the problem, government is. Go Tom!!
P.S. I’m not rich; far from it.
Tom i too am in the prosess of leaving new york state, Not only are they taxing my small buisness to death, they have been attacking me my whole life though addelasent child support that went in someones pocket more than my childs. To tax levys and leins due to honest mistakes and with no mediators they due what they wish with no remorse or intrest in helping, I have several properties that cant sell due to the out of control property taxes that in my small town are one of the highest in the country. im paying $2,200.00 a month in land and school taxes on 7 small rentals on 3 acres and my home. and the property i just purchassed in kentucky ( 50 acres ) is $168.00 a year. Im done busting my ass for the state, insurance companies, payroll taxes, etc. this comunist state will not be missed by me in any way. they should let madoff out and govern N.Y.S and still would be run with more honesty and integrety.
