Guiding True Political Reform in the State of New York
30 May
A Siena Research Institute study found that 11 percent of New Yorkers will move unless conditions improve and another 10 percent say they would like to move out “as quickly as I can.”
The same poll found a whopping 53 percent believe the state is moving in the wrong direction and only 33 percent saying our state is headed in the right direction.
Are you thinking of moving? Already left? Tell us about it in the comments section.

We are also leaving NY state for Florida. Taxes are one of the reasons along with the cost of living and the wonderful weather and sunshine. We love NY also, but not the financial situation and Albany does little to improve things.
It’s pretty shameful when you work as hard as you can and try to improve yourself and just maybe, you work day and night and hard enough to build an average home for you and your family and thinking that you will be able to afford it but then sadly enough you wake up one day in the very next future and realize that between taxes and health insurance most of your harder working money is taken away from you from the same people that you trust and rely on. SHAME ON OUR STATE AND LOCAL GOVERNAMENT, people are sick and tired to be exploited and taken advantaged of, we vote representatives in office to protect and help us and work for the common goals of the people, I can only hope things will change. Mr Golisano you did the smart thing my only wish is that maybe in your good heart take the lead on this ever so growing problem and work with us to restore what was once the great state of New York.
Thank you and God bless you.
Mr. Golisano has stated a very important fact: “the top earners account for about 50% if State Revenue”. Our State Government leaders JUST DON’T GET IT! What Arrogance! If more 1% folks leave and take their Businesses with them along with the rest of the Hard working, Tax paying Public, this State will be out of Business in a heart beat, just like California. As the saying goes, if you are not part of the solutions, you are a part…..a BIG part, of the problems. I am offended by the Government’s lack of responsibility and can only say that if “it” continues down this path of Financial Irresponsibility they too, the Politicians, will be gone. I notice they do not seem to care about paying more taxes. They believe that this State can tax its way into prosperity. This can never happen.
I was born and raised in the Rochester area, working for the last 48 years in Western NY, but will be leaving as soon as I can. I will not be able to afford the taxes and probably have to sell my home and property too. Love the State of New York but being on a fairly fixed income, Disabled Veteran, I can’t afford to stay here.
When will the NY voters get it too?
Disgusted and poor 99 percenter,

New York is a beautiful state but I just left Rochester for the Carolinas. I am tired of the taxes, the waste, the injustice, the lies, the filth, the crime, the weather, the cost of living, the lay-offs, reverse discrimination, unfriendly and trashy people, and irresponsible, unworthy, ungrateful underachievers who expect something for nothing–and get it!!! Please God, let this be better!
There are a dozen reasons for getting out of New York, and the other posters have covered them well. If I can find a way to afford relocation, I will run as fast as I can.
We’ve replaced some self-serving politicians with other self-serving politicians of different brand. Some actually switched sides last week. It will not make any difference. The parasites act as if they own us and are bleeding us dry faster than ever.
We’ve replaced bums with bums. Suppose we just throw the bums out and not replace them.
What would be the outcome if county-by-county, all the counties west of Albany petitioned the Senecas for adoption?
We would find ourselves living on a reservation free of the Albany parasites without having to relocate.
Imagine the possibilities. The news out of Albany would be a source of entertainment, not a cause for despair.
Gasoline, tobacco, and a host of other products would instantly be more affordable. We could tear down the toll booths on I-90 and convert them to drive through lottery stores or mini-casinos.
We would be partners in an enterprise, not slaves to politicians.
unfortunately in the state of new york everyone thinks that the other guy’s assemblyman or senator is the problem and their guy could never do anything wrong especially when we get those “free” grants etc. which anyone with half a brain knows is your money to begin with. my wife is retiring next year and we are giving serious thoughts to joining the exodus out of here.
A lot of voters forget that all government is paid for by working New Yorkers. All those free grants, help with special projects comes from US. The high taxes ,fees on fees are just supporting a lifestyle that New York politicians have become to believe is their due.We have to vote them out in the next elections but what will they be replaced with ,hopefully not more of the same old
I moved out of New York in June ‘09. We’ll see how the public employees do stealing my money now. Unions and public employee extortion are going to kill the state of New York. If you need to look into the future, look at California & Michigan…
