Bronx Zoo

Bronx Zoo

The Bronx Zoo is the world’s largest metropolitan zoo. More than 6,000 animals from about 650 species call this zoo home. The Bronx River flows through the 265 acres of parklands and habitats of the Bronx Zoo, which is managed along with the Central Park Zoo and the New York Aquarium by the Wildlife Conversation Society.

Major Exhibits at Bronx Zoo

One of the most popular attractions at the Bronx Zoo is the Congo Gorilla Forest, which features gorillas in 6.5 acres of rainforest. You will experience what it’s like in the heart of Africa as you explore treetop lookouts, walk through canopies of leaves and go nose-to-nose with these majestic creatures under sprays of mist.

Jungle World features a tropical Asian jungle with a warm temperature suited to animals like otters and gibbons. This attraction features hundreds of creatures that live in mangroves and a pond with a waterfall where you can sit and watch giant gourami and Fly River turtles swim by.

Located on a woodland that recreates the Russian Far East, Tiger Mountain is the showcase of the Bronx Zoo’s animal enrichment program. Visitors can get right up close to Siberian tigers and watch them behave as they would in their natural habitat, stalking a deer hide, cooling down n their swimming hole, or having a snack.

Interact with the Animals

Get up close and personal with the wildlife at the Bronx Zoo. You can saddle up and ride a camel around the Wild Asia Plaza; camel rides can accommodate one adult or up to three children. Or watch the Magellanic penguins come out of their dens for their daily feeding in the Russell B. Aitken Sea Bird Colony. The penguins bob for their fish daily at 3:30 pm. And one of the most popular attractions at the zoo is the California sea lion feedings, which take place twice a day in the sea lion pool along with training demonstrations.

Children’s Zoo

Open from April to October, the children’s zoo spans three acres and features a wide variety of kids’ activities. Children can experience animal habitats firsthand and feed grain to goats, sheep, and llamas in the barn area. At the end of your visit, your little one can even pose with an animal for a keepsake photo at the photo booth.

Birthday Parties at the Bronx Zoo – Host the birthday party of a lifetime for your little animal lover! The zoo with its amazing exhibits is the perfect venue for a birthday party for your two to 12-year-old. A private party room is provided along with fun party activities and an exciting up-close visit to an exhibit.

Programs and Tours

The Bronx Zoo’s mission is to connect people to wild nature and to learn the importance of protecting the natural world. The zoo features many exciting interactive programs for both youth and adults. From guided tours to family overnight stays to meeting zoo experts for an inside look at the exhibits, these engaging offers teach people of all ages about wildlife and their habitats.
