New York City is home to countless events every single year. These events are held in convention centers around town and one of the more frequented establishments is the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, shortened to Javits Center, which is statistically shown to be the busiest convention facility throughout the United States. The Center is located on Eleventh Avenue between 34th Street and 38th Street in Hell’s Kitchen, Manhattan in the newly revitalized West Side.
The Javits Center
The Javits Center is a three-story complex that’s entered through a 15-story structure of steel and glass, showcasing the 10 different exhibit halls, which routinely feature several various events at the same time. The biggest draw is the exhibit hall that features 760,000 sq feet of space from a total of 1,800,00 sq feet which spans across six city blocks.
Whether a visitor is in town for a Comic Convention or a Road Show, the Jacob Javits Center has plenty of in-house amenities for its guests. This includes ATMs, a FedEx Office, free and paid WiFi, transportation to the surrounding airports, and lodging options.
About the Convention Center
As noted above, the Javits Convention Center is one of the central points of activity throughout all of New York. More than 35,000 companies will rent space for more than 175 events throughout a calendar year and the center will generate up to $2 billion in economic activity in New York. As such a busy location visiting the Javits Center can take a little bit of legwork.
As a focal point in the city, parking can be incredibly difficult to attain. Visitors are suggested to take a shuttle or taxi in order to make their experience as comfortable as possible. Note that the Times Square and Union Square Greenmarket subway stations are a 14- to 20-minute walk away too.
Visitors planning to spend an entire day at the Center will likely take advantage of the various onsite dining locations. On the first level of the venue, there is a food court that offers 12 different dining options covering a host of different menus. Guests to the convention center can also explore several different dining options in the Crystal Palace Marketplace, such as Tortugas Voladoras featuring Chef Roberto Santibanez. All in all, there are plenty of different and acceptable dining options for every taste.
Finding a hotel near the Javits Convention Center should be relatively easy. It’s only a short cab ride away from Times Square. Visitors can also opt instead to get a hotel located in Midtown, near the Hudson River Park. The YOTEL New York is located close by and is considered one of the better local stays in Hell’s Kitchen, Midtown West. The DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel on the southern edge of Times Square is also another affordable option.
