Brooklyn Bridge Park

Brooklyn Bridge Park

Visitors are treated to stunning views of downtown Manhattan, the New York harbor, and the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges at the Brooklyn Bridge Park. This beautiful green space is a perfect place for playing sports of all kinds or enjoying picnics, bird-watching, and playground activities.

This urban oasis also offers a busy calendar of programs that are free to the public and has hosted many special events including the “Floating Pool and Beach” and the “Pier One Pop-Up Park.” Brooklyn Bridge Park has also been the setting for many popular TV series including Sex and the City, CSI, and the Sopranos.

Park on the Piers

Located on the Brooklyn waterfront, many sections of this park are built on piers that are used to unload ships. Pier 1 is the biggest of the park piers at 9.5 acres. It features two expansive lawns, a playground, and a waterfront promenade. There are lots of food stands to grab something to eat. Pier 1 is the perfect place to go for breathtaking views of Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn Bridge.

Pier 6 spans seven acres, and almost two acres of that is a massive destination playground including splash pads, swings, slides, and lots of other innovative equipment for kids to explore. A dog run is located near the park entrance at Atlantic Avenue.

Pier 6 also features three sand volleyball courts and rooftop concession stands where visitors can grab something to eat while enjoying great views of Lower Manhattan. At the southern edge of this pier is a ferry dock that offers free weekend ferry service to Governor’s Island.

Main Street and More

The Brooklyn Bridge Park is also comprised of the Main Street Lot, which features a nautically-themed playground that is a very popular destination for families. The Main Street area of the park also features a dog run and green space that leads to the water’s edge. Free wireless internet access is available in this area of the park.

Other areas of the Brooklyn Bridge Park include the Empire-Fulton Ferry Park which features a restored 1922 carousel, the landmark 19th century Tobacco Warehouse and the Cove, which is one of the only areas of the New York City waterfront where visitors can directly access the water.

Movies with a View

The summer outdoor movie series at Brooklyn Bridge Park is a wonderful way to see some great cinema while enjoying the spectacular backdrop of the Manhattan skyline. The shows take place at sunset at Pier 1 on the Harbor View Lawn. Movie-goers are advised to arrive early to claim their spot on the grass as lawn capacity is limited and the “Movies With A View” series is extremely popular.
